Westpac transaction-account statements generally use Date, Description, Debit, Credit, and Balance with day/month/year dates. Card purchases and direct debits are debits. Pay in and transfers from savings are credits. A wrapped narrative under a purchase belongs to that purchase.
A text-based Westpac PDF is read in your browser. The file is not uploaded. If the columns on your copy differ from the notes below, change the mapping in the preview before you download.
Westpac credit cards and mortgages are different PDFs. The transaction account is the one with a running balance beside everyday spending.
Typical columns: Date, Description, Debit, Credit, Balance. Date order: day/month/year. Currency on the statement: AUD.
Open the transaction account, choose statements, and save the PDF.
Those map directly. Set DMY for the dates.
A shop should be a debit. Salary should be a credit. Flip roles only if the PDF printed them backwards, which would be unusual.
Download after the closing balance matches.
