Banks · United States
Bank of America checking statements often print Withdrawals and Deposits as two amount columns next to Date, Description, and Balance. Some combined views use a single Amount column instead. Dates are month/day/year. A memo frequently wraps onto the next line under the description, with the amount staying on the first line.
A text-based Bank of America PDF is read in your browser. The file is not uploaded. If the columns on your copy differ from the notes below, change the mapping in the preview before you download.
When the two amount columns are present, a number under Withdrawals is money out and a number under Deposits is money in, regardless of sign. If your PDF uses one Amount column, negative or parenthesized numbers are money out and unsigned numbers are money in unless you change that rule.
Typical columns: Date, Description, Withdrawals, Deposits, Balance. Date order: month/day/year. Currency on the statement: USD.
From Bank of America online banking, open Statements & Documents and download the monthly PDF. Do not print the activity screen to PDF if you can get the statement file.
If you see Withdrawals and Deposits, leave those roles as they are. If you only see Amount, confirm the sign rule in the preview.
A second line that has words but no date should sit inside the description. Edit the cell if a memo was split in the wrong place.
XLSX keeps debits and credits separate. QuickBooks CSV uses one signed amount, negative when money left the account.
