HSBC UK current-account statements usually include a Payment type column with short codes such as VIS, DD, SO, CR, and BP, then Details, Paid out, Paid in, and Balance. Dates are day/month/year. Paid out is money leaving and Paid in is money arriving.
A text-based HSBC UK PDF is read in your browser. The file is not uploaded. If the columns on your copy differ from the notes below, change the mapping in the preview before you download.
The payment-type code is useful but it is not the amount. Map it to Ignore, or to Description if you want the code in front of the payee. Details is the description. Do not map Payment type to Date.
Typical columns: Date, Payment type, Details, Paid out, Paid in, Balance. Date order: day/month/year. Currency on the statement: GBP.
In HSBC UK online banking, open the account documents and save the statement PDF. Confirm the pages say Paid out and Paid in.
Choose Ignore or Description. Set Paid out to Debit and Paid in to Credit.
UK dates are day/month/year. If a second date column is the value date, map only one of them as Date.
Read one direct debit and one salary credit in the preview before you download.
